Hayes New Varsity Coach at Longwood

Posted Saturday, November 06, 2010 by Jayson Kiang
After having spent the last two seasons as Dennis Terry's varsity assistant and right hand man, veteran coach Pierce Hayes takes over as the head varsity boys basketball coach for the 2010-11 season.   Hayes had previously been the head coach of Longwood's winning varsity girls team in the 1990's.  With Hayes' elevation to the head position, the Longwood coaching staff has been reshuffled.  Bill McBrien goes from head JV9 coach to become Hayes' varsity assistant, Jayson Kiang moves up from the 8th grade squad to become the head JV coach, and Kenny Chan takes over as the new JV9 coach.  Herman Rohan, Gerry Myler, and Steve Sanders will lead the junior high squads, while DJ Holmes will remain a volunteer varsity assistant.

After 18 seasons, Dennis Terry stepped down as Longwood's head varsity basketball coach in June 2010.  He lead Longwood to the Suffolk County Class "AA" Championship game each of his last two seasons.  Coach Terry has set the standard of excellence that Longwood basketball has become, and the impact that he has had on the program and on Longwood High School in general will not be forgotten any time soon.
